Brief:
CRAFT CLUSTER
Craft cluster initiative culminates in the understanding of artisan’s life, the study of
craft, their existence, design involvement and development and promotion of the craft
all over India. It will help the revival of the craft which is on the brink of extinction. NIFT
organized the various workshops, Craft Bazaars and Exhibitions for artisans in which
they get an opportunity to showcase their craft and product, as a result, they get
expert’s suggestions which help in enhancing their designs and products and further
understanding of the market demands.
The objective of the craft cluster virtual visit to Patharkatti, Gaya is to study one of the
crafts called ‘Stone Carving’ which is practiced in that region. The Craft Research and
Documentation is to enhance student’s knowledge and the keynotes of the craft sector
and give insight into diversities, culture, resources, and environment.
The sub-objectives are as follows:
° To understand the Stone Carving craft, their community, social status and ethos of
the craft.
° To study every aspect of the stone carving that might help in bringing a change in
the welfare and development of the craft and artisans.
° Understanding and visual documentation of the process and techniques used in
stone carving.
° To study the design, marketing, and technology used in stone carving.
